Brooklyn Film Photowalk: Mamiya 7ii Panoramic 35mm Shots
Join a NYC film photography photowalk through DUMBO Brooklyn. Shooting panoramic 35mm with a Mamiya 7ii, CineStill 50D, and meeting community film camera enthusiasts.
Last week's photowalk was organized by NYC Film Lab, a new and very classy (though expensive) lab in Brooklyn. I arrived with my Mamiya 7ii and the panoramic kit installed.
When I installed the 35mm panoramic kit in the Mamiya 7ii, I lost the 120 film spool, thinking it would be trivial to find one at a lab since they dispose of them daily when developing customers' film. I've even seen some labs that keep them available for free in a bin at the counter.
I was planning to shoot 120 6x7 but ended up shooting 35mm panoramas anyway with the Kodak Gold 200 I had loaded, as NYC Film Lab didn't have a 120 spool to provide me.
Using the panoramic format turned out to be a happy coincidence, as the scenes I shot were perfectly suited for panoramas, as you'll see. With limited options, I ended up buying a roll of CineStill 50D. It was a sunny Saturday, and the lighting was perfect for this film stock.
Photowalks are incredibly fun. They're by far my favorite type of event. People meet, have fun (and beers, in this case), and talk about cameras. I particularly enjoy seeing and discussing the camera gear people bring to these events, so I made some short videos about it so you can share in that enjoyment as well.
The first friend I photographed was Juno with his incredible Mickey o’ Matic camera, check that out.

The photowalk continued through Dumbo, Brooklyn, and we eventually ended up at a bar. Here are some shots, along with people talking about their beloved cameras!
Sun rays light strong, and the golden hours was set. Perfect for the CineStill 50D. The panorama shots you see were all taken by me.
Here, <name> talks about his Pentax 67 MLU (for the mirror lock-up). He is using a projector's lens. I unfortunately don't remember his name, I added him on Instagram, but there's a problem with adding photographers on instagram: you can never see photos of themselves, just photos they take — if you know him, of you are himself reading this, please get in touch so I add your name in here ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ .
And Mr. Jack D and his very tactile and satisfying Graflex RB Series D / Super D.
Super Andrés Sandoval-Zea with his Leica M4, his daily carry shooting around Manhattan (where he usually uses Ilford HP5), and a Nikon F2, his baby, where he almost exclusively shoots respooled Kodak Ektachrome.
Huynh Pacific (a.k.a. Peace) and his Leica MA (with a little charm!) at the bar, a camera with no light meter! Also, a Mamiya RB67 with a 70mm film back shooting 65mm Kodak Vision 3. How pro is that?
And Pranav Menon with his brand new trade, a Hasselblad 501CM. If I'm not wrong, he traded his Leica M6 for that Hassel in the photowalk, a bold and cool move!

You might have started in DUMBO, but those pics & interviews are right in my neighborhood - Williamsburg!
Amazing experience, Rafa! Great pics also! Congrats from Rio!
